  • 1906: After going 116-36, Cubs lose World Series 4-2 to White Sox's Hitless Wonders

  • 1932: Babe Ruth calls his shot -- Bambino points to center field and then clouts home run off Cubs' Charlie Root in World Series

  • 1945: Owner of Billy Goat Tavern, prohibited from bringing pet goat into Wrigley Field during World Series, places shockingly effective curse on team - Cubs lose 4-3 to Detroit in last appearance in Fall Classic

  • 1964: Second baseman Ken Hubbs, 1962 Rookie of the Year, dies in plane crash

  • 1964: Cubs trade future Hall of Famer Lou Brock to Cardinals for pitcher Ernie Broglio, who wins seven games in three years
