DURHAM... 1B RYAN JACKSON came through in the clutch twice for the Bulls on August 26 in a 5-4 victory over Charlotte in 12 innings. With runners on first and third and two out in the bottom of the ninth, Jackson singled into center field to score OF MATT DIAZ, tying the score at 4-4. Before the 31-year-old came to the plate in the 12th, Charlotte LHP TOM JACQUEZ recorded two outs, but also walked two batters. With runners on first and second, Jackson delivered a base hit to center field, scoring Diaz. The lefthanded-hitting Jackson went 3-for-6 with two RBI, snapping a drought of 11 games without knocking in a run....

ORLANDO... C SHAWN RIGGINS hit a two-run homer and scored twice in a 6-4 decision over Tennessee August 23. Riggins, who walked and scored in the top of the sixth, followed a single by 2B FERNANDO CORTEZ in the fourth with his first homer for Orlando, snapping a 1-1 tie. Cortez and OF J.J. GOMES both hit a solo shot. The following night, the Rays sent 10 men to the plate in the fourth inning and finished with five runs en route to a 10-4 win over Tennessee...

OF JOEY GATHRIGHT was named the league's Rookie of the Year and to the league's 2003 All-Star team. Gathright, a 32nd-round pick in 2001, hit .324 with 23 RBI and 57 stolen bases before being promoted to Class AA. He was the lone Bakersfield player named to the team...

3B EDGAR GONZALEZ hit .396 (19-48, 8 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 1 SB) in 13 games August 14-27....
