Most Outstanding Player: Corliss Williamson, Arkansas

All tournament long, Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson moaned about the lack of respect shown his team. The Razorbacks earned that respect by winning the title. Duke was pretty much a one-man team, but that one man—Grant Hill—was as good as any in the country. The Blue Devils kept the game tight, and the score was even at 70 with 52.5 seconds left. That's when Arkansas' Scotty Thurman fired up a three-pointer with the shot clock at :01 that SI said "air-traffic control could have picked up." Duke's Antonio Lang barely missed getting a hand on it, and when the shot found the bottom of the net the Razorbacks were on their way. Said Thurman, who finished with 15 points: "If we can't get respect now, I don't think we ever will." Fellow sophomore Williamson had 23 points and eight rebounds in the final after 29 and 13 in the semis.

SI's Pick: "When he finally puts that sledgehammer down, we expect Nolan to wear the Queen City crown."

Surprise Guest: Florida was a 3 seed, but the Gators came from a school with no basketball pedigree.

Close Call: Florida needed OT to beat UConn 69-60 in the East semis. The Huskies had a chance to win but All-America Donyell Marshall missed two free throws at the end of regulation.

Memorable Moment: Boston College upset No. 1 North Carolina—with just about everybody back from the 1993 champions plus Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace—75-72 in the second round, ending UNC's string of Sweet 16 appearances at 13.

Significant Fact: This was Duke's seventh trip to the Final Four in the past nine seasons.

They Said It: Richardson, perceiving that some people were picking Duke because it was "smarter"— "If there are two guys in a fight, and one is a big, strong guy and the other's a little, smart guy, who do you think is going to win?"

Future First-Round Picks: Arkansas—Corliss Williamson (1995, 13th, Sacramento); Duke—Grant Hill (1994, 3rd, Detroit), Cherokee Parks (1995, 12th, Dallas); Arizona—Khalid Reeves (1994, 12th, Miami), Damon Stoudamire (1995, 7th, Toronto).
