LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- LaCresha Flannigan scored 14 points and hit a crucial 3-pointer with 81 seconds left as fourth-ranked UCLA held on for a 69-65 triumph over No. 8 North Carolina in the Four in the Fall Classic. North Carolina (0-1) used a 30-12 run to take its first lead, 65-63 lead with 2:29 left, when Leah Sharp buried a 3-pointer. Nikki Teasley scored eight points in that spurt and Juana Brown added seven. Flannigan nailed the Bruins (1-0) only 3-pointer on 12 attempts for a 66-65 cushion. Nicole Kaczmarski hit two foul shots for a three-point cushion with 19 seconds left and Brown missed a shot from beyond the arc for the Tar Heels. Flannigan went 4-of-12 from the floor for UCLA, which shot 37 percent (28-of-76). Marie Philman had 12 points and 12 rebounds, Maylana Martin added 10 and 11 and Janae Hubbard grabbed 10 rebounds as the Bruins gained a 60-47 rebounding edge. Brown sparked North Carolina with 16 points, but was just 2-of-11 from 3-point range. Teasley and LaQuanda Barksdale each had 10 for the Tar Heels, who shot 34 percent (27-of-79). Jackie Higgins pulled down 10 rebounds. UCLA gained a 43-26 lead with 2:14 left in the first half on Takiyah Jackson's jumper.
