CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- LaQuanda Barksdale scored 16 of her 24 points in the first half to lead No. 11 North Carolina to a 72-68 victory over Arizona State.

Barksdale shot 12-of-25 from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds for the Tar Heels (2-2), who connected on 46 percent (32-of-70) of their field goals.

North Carolina took a 70-63 lead with under two minutes remaining, but a basket by Arizona State's Rachel Holt and a 3-pointer by Sarah Allen closed the gap to 70-68 with 60 seconds left.

The Tar Heels sealed the victory on Juana Brown's basket with three seconds to play.

The Tar Heels took advantage of cold first-half shooting by Arizona State to take a 34-27 lead at intermission. The Sun Devils shot only 30 percent (8-of-27) in the first half, but stayed close by converting 10-of-11 free throws.

Jackie Higgins scored 12 points and Brown added 11 and 12 rebounds for North Carolina, who had 16 steals in the game.

Holt led Arizona State with 21 points and Natalie Tucker added 16.
