BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) -- Krista Gingrich's 3-pointer sparked a key 11-0 spurt late in the second half as 18th-ranked Duke pulled away for its sixth straight win, 70-61 over No. 24 Virginia Tech.
Duke (7-1) had an 11-point halftime lead, but the Hokies cut it to 53-52 on a 3-pointer by Sarah Hicks with 4:33 remaining. Gingrich answered with a 3-pointer just under a minute later and Lauren Rice made a layup to give the Blue Devils a 58-52 cushion.
Sheana Mosch and Peppi Browne each made a free throw before Georgia Schweitzer sank two to cap the burst and extend Duke's lead to 64-52 with 1:36 left.
Schweitzer scored 27 points and grabbed six rebounds and Browne finished with 15 points, seven boards and four steals for the Blue Devils.
Amy Wetzel topped Virginia Tech with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists. Hicks scored 14 and Tere Williams contributed 13 rebounds for the Hokies, who had a three-game winning streak stopped.
