NORFOLK, Virginia (Ticker) -- Natalie Diaz scored 20 points, including a 3-pointer than ignited a 9-0 first-half run, as 21st-ranked Old Dominion routed intrastate rival Virginia, 86-65.
Sharron Francis had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Lucienne Berthieu added 16 points and a career-high 15 boards for the Lady Monarchs (5-1), who have won three straight since their lone loss of the season to Connecticut on November 26.
Virginia (4-4) was within 25-24 after a 3-pointer by Telisha Quarles with just over seven minutes to play in the first half. But Old Dominion scored the next nine points to take control and was never threatened over the final 20 minutes.
After Diaz drained a 3-pointer, Francis made two free throws. Nicole Bellinghausen scored her only four points of the night on two foul shots and a jumper that gave Old Dominion a 34-24 lead with 4:41 to go before the break.
The Cavaliers did not get closer than eight points thereafter as they fell to 1-2 on the road.
Hamchetou Maiga and Okeisha Howard scored 10 points apiece for Old Dominion, which shot just 42 percent (28-of-66) but forced 27 turnovers and held a 40-35 rebounding advantage.
Quarles netted 19 points and Erin Stovall added 13 for the Cavaliers, who connected on 46 percent (26-of-57) of their shots.
