PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Shawnetta Stewart scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as 16th-ranked Rutgers capitalized on big second half for a 72-46 upset of No. 9 UCLA.
Tasha Pointer collected 12 of her 16 points in the second half for Rutgers (6-2), which scored the final 18 points of the contest. Stewart scored 12 points in the decisive burst.
Maylana Martin was the only player in double figures for the Bruins (5-3), finishing with 19 points. UCLA had its three-game winning streak stopped.
It looked like the Lady Knights were going to blow out UCLA in the first half as they opened a 25-9 with 6:56 to play before intermission as Christina Fowler nailed a 3-pointer. But the Bruins battled back and trailed just 28-24 at halftime.
Rutgers shot 48 percent (27-of-56) from the field while holding the Bruins to 34 percent (17-of-50).
