As Catfish Hunter used to say, "The sun don't shine on the same dog's butt
every afternoon." Well, maybe not, but the New York Yankees have seen a
lot of sunshine through the years. The Yankees won their third World Series in
four seasons, and their 25th of the 20th century. The Bronx Bombers' recent
postseason dominance -- 22-3 over the past two postseasons and a record-tying 12 straight World Series wins -- is unrivaled, except possibly by the old Yankees. What should not be overlooked in the tiresome "Team of the Decade" debate is what the 1999 Yankees overcame: the deaths of three players' fathers, Joe Torre's and Darryl Strawberry's victorious bouts with cancer, not to mention the sublime expectations created by their 125 wins in 1998. Team of the Decade? Let us simply appreciate all it took just to be Team of the
Year.
