BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter who began his career at outside linebacker. All-American selection as a senior after totaling 74/24/6. Big South Defensive Player of the Year as a junior after posting 77/14/8.

POSITIVES: Productive pass-rusher with nice size. Fast off the edge, plays with terrific pad level, and rarely off his feet. Consistently doubled by opponents, yet holds his ground and plays with good balance. Reads the action, quickly changes direction, and has a closing burst to the play. Effectively uses his hands, displaying a variety of moves to shed blocks.

NEGATIVES: Lacks lower-body strength, handled by large opponents, and can be a liability against the run.

ANALYSIS: Johnston is a productive and hard-working player who does the little things well. He must physically fill out and improve his overall strength, yet he offers enough skill to eventually develop into a starter at the next level.
