BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter awarded All-Conference honors since his freshman campaign. Junior-year numbers included 82/2/5 after 71/4/6 as a sophomore.

POSITIVES: Athletic safety with outstanding size and skill. Fast in all directions of the field, has a closing burst, and plays with a large degree of explosion. Quickly breaks to the action, hard-hitting, and can be an intimidating force. Does a good job with centerfield assignments, works well with teammates, and effective in coverage when placed over the slot receiver. Quick up the field and attacks ball-carriers.

NEGATIVES: Inefficient and does not consistently take proper angles to the action. Does more grab-tackling and goes high on ball-carriers. Not always the first volunteer to throw his helmet into the pile.

ANALYSIS: Phillips is an imposing safety who impacted the Miami program upon his arrival. He has the skill and confidence to be an immediate starter at the next level and could be very productive right away if he attends to the details of his game.
