Archie Griffin (1974 & '75)
Each week of the 1999 college football season, CNN/Sports Illustrated brings you Heisman Heroes, an original series profiling some of the greatest college football stars of all time. Check in each week for a new installment. No less a critic than Woody Hayes called him the greatest player he ever coached. Archie Griffin combined power, speed and consistency to amass an incredible string of 31 consecutive 100-yard games. He received the Heisman Trophy as a junior in 1974 and again in 1975 -- the only player to win the award twice. "My name is not only Archie Griffin, it's two-time Heisman trophy winner Archie Griffin," he said. "Once you win the award it's with you for the rest of your life, and I realize that and I'm proud of that. It changed my life." After eight years with the Cincinnati Bengals, Griffin returned to his alma mater and is now the Associate Director of Athletics, overseeing not only the football program but 17 varsity sports. "When you see the type of athletes that are playing the game of football, and you see the type of athletes that have won the award in the past, you look back over it and say, 'Wow, I must have really been blessed.'"
