EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- Terry Nichols, a backup defensive lineman at Texas A&M, has been killed in a traffic accident in El Paso, Texas, that left three other people injured.

Nichols, 21, was killed about 11:15 p.m. Saturday when a car crossed the center median in east El Paso and collided with the car in which he was riding in the front seat, authorities said.

Nichols was a former standout at El Paso Irvin High School.

Police said Gordon Polley Jr., 19, of El Paso was westbound when he struck the median and lost control of his 1991 Mitsubishi, which crossed into the eastbound lanes and crashed into a 1993 Honda driven by Ruby Williams, 21, of El Paso. Jara Harris, 22, of El Paso, who was riding in the backseat was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Nichols died at the scene, police said.

Polley, who police said was wearing his seatbelt, was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
