SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Larry Ned rushed for a career-high 285 yards and three touchdowns, leading San Diego State to a 40-7 rout of Eastern Illinois. Ned sat out the fourth quarter but had 30 carries en route to the fourth-best rushing total in school history. Marshall Faulk has the top three performances. Lon Sheriff completed 11-for-24 passes for 134 yards with a TD and three interceptions and J.R. Tolver had eight catches for 137 yards and two scores for San Diego State (2-3), which snapped a seven-game home losing streak. The Aztecs' last home win was a 38-7 triumph over Wyoming in the final game of the 1999 season. Tony Romo threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Andre Raymond for Eastern Illinois' only points. The Panthers (3-1), who were averaging a little over 36 points and nearly 400 yards per game, were held to 226 yards. Ned's five-yard run extended San Diego State's lead to 14-0 with just under 14 minutes left in the second quarter before Romo's scoring strike to Raymond halved Eastern Illinois' deficit. Tommy Kirovsky kicked field goals of 22 and 23 yards as the Aztecs took a 20-7 advantage with 11:15 to go in the third quarter. They stretched the lead to 33-7 on TD runs of nine and 10 yards by Ned. San Diego State closed the scoring early in the fourth quarter when backup Adam Hall hit Tolver with a 21-yard pass. Hall was 4-for-4 for 107 yards.
