EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Moments after the Jacksonville Jaguars lost Sunday, offensive coordinator Chris Palmer sounded like a man who is looking forward to moving on.

Palmer, one of the top NFL coaching prospects, finally talked about the possibility of interviewing for one or more vacancies and becoming a head coach.

"I'm hoping some things will happen in the coming week," he said. "I'm interested in any head coaching job."

The Jaguars lost 34-24 to the New York Jets, ending coach Tom Coughlin's restriction on interview requests -- both from media and other teams.

The Cleveland Browns have said they want to interview Palmer. So have the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles.

Palmer said he would welcome the opportunity to become a head coach again, a post he hasn't held since 1989, when he was at Boston University. Before that, he spent two seasons as head coach at New Haven University.

"I've been a head coach for four years," Palmer said. "There's no sabbatical in coaching. You have to go on to the next level. You can't go to Oxford, study and come back. My sabbatical was going to the NFL. I'm anxious to become a head coach again."

Palmer spent two years as Jacksonville's offensive coordinator. Before that, he was an assistant with the Patriots for four years, the last year as their offensive coordinator.

He also spent three years with the Oilers, helping install the run-and-shoot.

He said he's anticipating his telephone ringing when he returns home.

"Hopefully, some things will happen in the next couple of days," he said.
