He just scores touchdowns Little-known Griffith scores 2 TDs to spark BroncosPosted: Monday February 01, 1999 03:17 AM
MIAMI (AP) -- The unsung member of the Denver Broncos' backfield outdid Terrell Davis when it came to scoring touchdowns. Howard Griffith scored on a pair of 1-yard runs in Denver's 34-19 victory Sunday over the Atlanta Falcons. "Griff doesn't get enough credit for the job he does," Davis said. "He likes to run the ball, but he doesn't beg for it." Davis, the NFL most valuable player, carried 25 times for 102 yards. But it was Griffith that the Broncos turned to when they were near the goal line.
His first touchdown gave Denver the lead for good, 7-3. He scored again for a 24-6 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter. Griffith almost had a third touchdown, but John Elway barely overthrew him on a potential 37-yard scoring pass. The Broncos' fullback finished with four carries for 9 yards. And 12 points.
