LaVar Arrington 1-on-1 Second overall pick on comparisons to L.T.

Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington went No. 2 to the Washington Redskins in the 2000 NFL Draft. CNNSI.com's Mark Morgan caught up with Arrington at the draft after he was selected Saturday. Mark Morgan: Is there a twinge of disappointment that you didn't go No. 1? I know your teammate did, but there's kind of an ego thing, right? Is it a letdown? LaVar Arrington: No, not at all. I'm so proud of Courtney right now, and to have him go me is no disappointment or letdown. Morgan: There was some discussion in the media that you actually preferred the Redskins. I think people were intimating that they were very close to going to the Super Bowl last year, while the Browns would be a total rebuilding process. Is that true that you really wanted to go to the Redskins and didn't want to be part of a team that would stuggle. Arrington: No, that's not true. I feel like I'm biased in the whole process, and I think the Redskins is a great situation -- a great, great situation to step into -- but you never know where you are going to end up. So I had no biases toward any of the teams. Morgan: The Lawrence Taylor comparison, do you welcome that, or is that a burden? Arrington: (Holding up new No. 56 Washington Redskins jersey) Does that answer it? Does that answer it? I hope that answers the question (laughs). I'm going to wear it. No, I don't feel like that's too lofty of an expectation. It's a challenge that I gladly accept. Morgan: Last year, the Redskins added Champ Bailey to their defense, and this year, they add you. Do you feel like you are kind of that missing piece of the puzzle that can instantly turn the Redskins into a championship contender with a solidified defense? Arrington: I just think that with all the people that they brought in, I think that collectively this is a championship-run team. Morgan: Congratulations, and good luck with Washington. Arrington: Thank you.
