EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Stephen Davis rushed for three touchdowns for the second straight week and a successful challenge overturned a potential touchdown as the surprising Washington Redskins posted a 27-20 victory over the winless New York Jets. Davis continued to emerge as one of the biggest early season surprises, carrying 24 times for 93 yards. He scored just before the half to give Washington a 10-7 lead at the break and twice in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter as the Redskins (2-1) overcame a 17-13 deficit. Davis rushed for 109 yards in Washington's season-opening loss to Dallas and followed with 126 yards last week. Today's production raises his season total to 328 rushing yards through three weeks. "The more I show the coach I want to get it in the end zone, the more they'll give it to me," Davis said. The Redskins were also the beneficiary of a replay ruling. Washington was ahead 27-17 with 2:21 left in the contest when an 81-yard kickoff return by Kevin Williams set the Jets up at the Washington 16. Rick Mirer found Keyshawn Johnson in the end zone for a touchdown but the call was challenged by Redskins coach Norv Turner and the play was reversed. New York settled for a field goal on the possession. "We felt all along that it would help the game," Turner said. "We've been on the wrong side on a number of calls over the last few years. If there's a definite call, they can make it right. I think the system works." Washington completed a road sweep of both New York teams. They have scored 112 points in their three contests, by far the most in the league. The Jets (0-3) face Denver, also winless in three contests, next week in a rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game. "Needless to say, this was extremely disappointing to me," Jets coach Bill Parcells said. "I'm just very disappointed with the way it turned out. "I think we played a little better offensively and defensively. We had a little better balance, but in the end, when you have to make plays, we had a couple of people who were non-competitive and that did us in. Lack of concentration and poor judgement is what I attribute it to." Washington starting quarterback Brad Johnson completed 17-of-28 passes for 241 yards. Johnson has thrown for 854 yards without an interception this season. Michael Westbrook, who entered the game the leading receiver in the NFC, had four catches for 84 yards. "It was a huge win," Johnson said. "That game could have swung either way. Fortunately, we got a break at the end. ... I would almost say it was a statement game, coming from behind to win in the fourth quarter on the road, and doing it here in New York. This is a very tough place to play, it's very loud, and they have a tremendous defense." Mirer, who struggled last week in his first start for the Jets, got New York off to a quick start by finding Dedric Ward with a 35-yard scoring strike on its first drive of the contest. The Jets defense was able to hold Washington in check through the first quarter and into the second. But Johnson engineered a 10-play, 76-yard drive that culminated in a 26-yard field goal by Brett Conway. After New York was forced to punt, Washington took over at its own 26 and Johnson quickly moved the team into scoring position. Johnson found Westbrook for 29 yards then Albert Connell for 34. Davis ran for 10 yards on two carries before bulling in from the 1 with 1:11 to go in the half. The Redskins extended their lead to 13-7 on their first possession of the third quarter. A flea-flicker resulted in a 34-yard gain but the drive stalled at the New York 32 and Conway converted a 50-yard field goal attempt. The Jets offense continued to struggle without starting quarterback Vinny Testaverde, wide receiver Wayne Chrebet and running back Leon Johnson. They did forge ahead 14-13 late in the third quarter when Curtis Martin scored from three yards out. New York pushed its advantage to 17-13 with 8:10 to go in the contest. Mirer found Richie Anderson for 28 yards and converted a key third down opportunity by finding Keyshawn Johnson for 10 yards. A holding call on backup fullback Blake Spence stalled the drive and the Jets managed only three points on a 37-yard field goal by John Hall. Washington regained the lead thanks to a pair of costly pass interference penalties on Ray Mickens. The first call resulted in a 35-yard gain and the second came on a 3rd-and-3 play at the New York 11. Davis made the last miscue prove costly by barrelling in from the 4 on the next play. Trailing 20-17, New York committed a costly turnover on its next possession when defensive end Kenard Lang sacked Mirer, who fumbled at his own 21. Four plays later, Davis made it a 10-point contest with a seven-yard scoring burst. After Johnson's apparent touchdown was overturned, the Jets were forced to settle for a field goal with 1:45 left and never got the ball back. "We're making mistakes at critical times that are hurting us," said Mirer, who was 17-of-31 for 227 yards. "We're pretty confident in what we're doing, we just need to stop hurting ourselves. Our feeling is, we're hurting ourselves more than anyone is hurting us." "I really thought our guys responded," Turner added. "To me, it's a team win. Our guys won the game in the fourth quarter. Had a drive, played good defense, created a turnover." Parcells endured a winless September for just the third time in his career.
