INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Drew Bledsoe was supposed to play just one half and probably should have. Bledsoe had a strong first half but threw an interception during the first series of the third quarter as the Buffalo Bills suffered a 19-7 exhibition loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Bledsoe continued his solid preseason play in the first half, completing 9-of-16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. He started the second half and completed just 1-of-4 attempts and threw an interception. Acquired in an offseason trade from Super Bowl champion New England, Bledsoe finished 10-of-20 for 109 yards. The veteran threw a three-yard touchdown pass to second-round pick Josh Reed with 2:04 left in the first quarter. Kevin McDougal had a one-yard touchdown run three minutes into the game and Mike Vanderjagt added a 36-yard field goal as the Colts jumped to a 10-0 lead. Vanderjagt kicked three field goals in the second half while Buffalo was held scoreless after Bledsoe's touchdown pass. Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning went 12-of-23 for 104 yards. Brock Huard - Manning's backup - played the first series of the third quarter before leaving with a hand injury. The game's leading rusher was Indianapolis punter Hunter Smith, who gained 31 yards on a fake punt in the third quarter. |
