SYDNEY, Sept 30 (AFP) - Olympic men's time trial gold medallist Viacheslav Ekimov said Saturday he would probably miss the world championships in France in two weeks after winning gold in Sydney.

Ekimov, who beat out reigning time trial world champion Jan Ullrich in the race against the clock, said he wanted to enjoy his gold medal and take some time looking around Sydney before travelling back to Europe.

He said that, combined with the time it would take to travel to France for the world championships, meant he would probably not be in shape to race then.

"It will be hard to keep my form," he said after his gold medal ride.

American Lance Armstrong, the double Tour de France winner and time trial bronze medallist here Saturday, reiterated he wouldn't take part in the world championships either.

Even without the Olympics, the timing of the world championships in late October rather than August or early September as they used to be, had made them difficult to compete in, he said.

That means the only one of the time trial medallists competing in the October 12 individual time trial in the small town of Plouay in Brittany will be Ullrich, the reigning world champion.

"I'm in good form and I'm going to try and conserve that form," Ullrich said.
