With MLS you could say the most important season is always the current one. But this time league officials really mean it. "Our season is ready to go, we're very excited about our fourth year," said Commissioner Doug Logan. "As I've said before, 1999 represents for us 'The Year of No Excuses.' During our first three years, we competed with a lot of things going on. This year we have no new teams, no competition for attention with World Cup, the Olympic Games or World Cup Qualifiers."

The league has scheduled most of its games on the weekend this season -- about 58 percent of matches will take place on Saturdays. Officials hope for a rise in attendance, which averaged just over 14,300 per match in 1998.
