PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- The Los Angeles Galaxy advanced to Major League Soccer's championship game for the second time in its four-year history with a 3-1 victory over the Dallas Burn on Thursday night in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals.

Greg Vanney and Carlos Hermosillo scored first-half goals while Mauricio Cienfuegos added a second-half goal as Los Angeles won the best-of-3 series 2-1.

The Galaxy will face either Columbus or D.C. United in MLS Cup '99 Nov. 21 at Foxboro, Mass. The United will play host to the Crew in the decisive third game of their Eastern Conference final series Saturday.

Los Angeles was an overtime loser to D.C., 3-2, in the inaugural MLS Cup in 1996, also played at Foxboro.

Jason Kreis scored Dallas' goal on a penalty kick with 1:05 to play after referee Brian Hall called Galaxy defender Robin Fraser for a hand ball in the penalty area.

Vanney opened the scoring with a third-minute penalty kick awarded by Hall after Vanney's cross from the left wing intended for Ezra Hendrickson deflected off Burn defender Paul Broome's left forearm. Vanney converted the penalty kick.

Los Angeles increased its lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute when Roy Myers took possession of a loose ball, drew two defenders toward him, sent the ball to Clint Mathis, who drove past Haynes. Dallas goalkeeper Mark Dodd came to the top of the penalty area to deflect the ball away, but it went to Hermosillo, who put the ball into the net.

Hendrickson set up Los Angeles' third goal in the 68th minute, dribbling past Jorge Rodriguez on the right side, sending a pass back to Cienfuegos at the penalty spot who shot in the center of the net for the score.

Los Angeles led 13-7 in shots and 5-2 in shots on goal. Dodd made two saves while Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman made one.
