BONN, Germany
(Reuters) -- German police on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man suspected
of taking part in the assault on French policeman Daniel Nivel outside a
World Cup stadium in Lens, prosecutors said. State prosecutors in
the city of Hanover said police had arrested the suspect, whom they did not
name, in his home in Hamburg early on Monday. The prosecutors said in a
statement they had questioned the suspect, who said he had been close to
the scene of the crime but denied assaulting Nivel. "He is,
however, heavily implicated by witnesses and photographs of the crime," the
prosecutors' statement said. The arrest warrant accuses the man of
attempted murder and causing serious injury. Nivel, a 43-year-old
father of two, has been in a coma since the attack in Lens on June 21.
