Brazil's Dunga announces end to Japan career Posted: Saturday November 21, 1998 01:40 PM
TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Brazil's World Cup captain Dunga announced on Saturday his playing days in Japan were over and he would play his final match in the J-League competition next Saturday. The 35-year-old Dunga will make his final appearance for Jubilo Iwata after four years in the J-League. "I'm going to make up my mind about my next destination after taking some rest," Dunga said after Iwata's 2-1 extra-time loss to Kashima Antlers on Saturday. Dunga, who captained Brazil to the 1994 World Cup, led his side to the runner up position in this year's World Cup and said he has received offers from several European and South American clubs. Iwata officials told reporters that the club has no plan to change Dunga's mind by renewing his contract which expires at the end of the present season. Dunga said he planned to return home to Brazil before deciding on where he would play next. He joined Iwata in 1995 and his charismatic leadership helped the club to last year's league crown.
