Andy Cole
Man Utd
Born: 10/15/71
Hometown: Nottingham
The Nottingham-born striker began his career at Arsenal, and after a short spell on loan to Fulham, was released to join Bristol City.Bought by Newcastle, he quickly established himself as a top-class goalscorer notching 34 league goals in 1993-94 Premiership season. He was idolised at St James' Park and it was a real shock to his Geordie fans when he was sold to Manchester United.Cole has always had blistering pace and at United his all-round game has improved. There have been times when he has attracted criticism for not putting away some clear-cut scoring chances and he was overlooked for the England World Cup squad of 1998.He was revitalised by the signing of Dwight Yorke from Aston Villa, with whom he struck up an immediate and successful partnership, and played a major part in Manchester United's success 1998-99.Cole is the only player to have scored five goals in a Premiership match, against Ipswich in March 1995.The clamour for Cole to be named for England finally came to fruition when Kevin Keegan picked him for the World Cup qualifier against Germany. Keegan departed but Cole remained for the next match against Finland. And, he is by personal choice, now known by his 'Sunday' name, Andrew.
