| Mark Bosnich |
Chelsea Born: 1/13/72 Hometown: Fairfield |
| Mark Bosnich signed for Manchester United during the summer of 1999 under the Bosman ruling after seven seasons at Aston Villa. In reality it was a re-signing, for the Australian spent two seasons at Old Trafford in the early 1990s, making the odd appearance before being forced to leave after the Home Office failed to grant him a work permit.During his time at Villa Park, Bosnich developed his potential and now has the reputation of being one the finest goalkeepers in world football.Bosnich is a brilliant shot-stopper and consistently high-class performances for both Villa and the Australian international side convinced Sir Alex Ferguson that he should be the replacement for Peter Schmeichel. But his early days at Old Trafford were far from happy as Ferguson chopped and changed personnel in the No1 jersey.During the early part of the 2000/2001 season Bosnich rejected a loan move to Scottish Premier League giants Celtic. Although it had been made perfectly clear to the Aussie international that he was third choice at United he'd refused to move declaring that he would prefer instead to fight for his first team place at Old Trafford. On January 18, 2001, he was released by Manchester United, and snapped up by Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri the same day. |
