BASEBALL TRANSACTIONS
Anaheim Angels -- Acquired pitcher Scott Karl and cash from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named.
Chicago Cubs -- Activated pitcher Kerry Wood from the 15-day disabled list; optioned infielder Jose Nieves to Iowa of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).
Cincinnati Reds -- Named Kasey McKeon director of scouting.
Oakland Athletics -- Placed outfielder Jeremy Giambi on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right intercostal muscle; recalled outfielder Eric Byrnes from Sacramento of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).


BASKETBALL TRANSACTIONS
Detroit Pistons -- Acquired forward Billy Owens from the Milwaukee Bucks for guard Lindsey Hunter.
Indiana Pacers -- Named Brendan Malone, Jim Stack and Tree Rollins assistant coaches.
Washington Wizards -- Traded center Isaac Austin to the Vancouver Grizzlies for forward Dennis Scott, forward-centers Cherokee Parks and Obinna Ekezie and guard Felipe Lopez.

Atlanta Falcons -- Reached an injury settlement with linebacker Jon Hesse and waived him.
Carolina Panthers -- Placed linebacker Spencer Reid on injured reserve; reached injury settlements with wide receiver Octavus Barnes and defensive lineman Alton Weaver.
Cincinnati Bengals -- Waived punter Brad Costello, linebackers Ben Peterson and Alan Buckwalter, fullback Ricky Brown and defensive tackle Mike Willetts; placed cornerback Charles Fisher on the physically unable to perform list; claimed offensive tackle Kris Farris off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cleveland Browns -- Released wide receivers Zola Davis and Dwaune Jones, fullback Greg Robinette and offensive lineman Manuia Savea.
